Getting Into the City, and Around the South

One of the quieter advantages of staying in Māngere is how well connected it is — not just to Auckland Airport, but to the whole southern and central rail and bus network. You don't need a car to explore from here, though having one certainly helps for Ambury Farm and One Tree Hill.

To the airport

Auckland Airport is a 12-minute drive from the cabin. If you're not driving, catch the Route 38 bus from Māngere Town Centre — it runs directly to the airport via Onehunga, every 15–20 minutes, seven days a week. It's the most direct option if you're actually starting from Māngere, rather than AirportLink, which is more useful if you're already at Puhinui Station or Manukau Bus Station.

To the city centre

From Māngere Town Centre, Route 309 runs regularly into the city and is the most reliable option most of the day. Route 309X is a faster express version, but only runs a couple of trips each way at peak commuter times on weekdays — check current times before relying on it. Route 30 is a useful alternative too, connecting the city centre to Ōtara via Onehunga, Māngere Town Centre and Papatoetoe, and also runs as a NightRider service.

If you'd rather take the train, Puhinui Station connects to the Southern Line and Eastern Line into central, east and south Auckland — a traffic-free way into town, reachable from the airport via AirportLink.

If you're catching a flight and want a direct express option, SkyDrive runs shuttles between the airport and SkyCity in the CBD, with the first service leaving the city around 5am.

Around South Auckland

Māngere is well placed for exploring the wider south without heading into the city at all — Ōtāhuhu, Papatoetoe, Manukau and the Auckland Botanic Gardens are all a short drive or train ride away, and are covered in more detail in our guide to what to do around Auckland.
